2007 MAT RAT Sportsmanship Policy
All Mat Rat Wrestlers while attending any practice or sanctioned events will be held accountable for their actions while Mat Side at tournaments or in the O'Hara High School Wrestling room.
All Mat Rat Wrestlers look their opponent in the eyes, shake their opponent and their Coaches hands before they leave the Mat as a sign of a good contest, win or lose.
If you win a match wait until you shake hands with your opponent and be sure to sign your bout card (open tournaments only or if specified by the tournament director) then you can jump up and down.
Throwing headgear, crying, cussing, and being rough with your opponent to the extent of fighting or causing injury instead of wrestling during a match will not be tolerated. The Mat Rat Coach may end the match & forfeit the contest to the opponent. Depending upon the severity of the actions or if the wrestler fails to calm down during the match will dictate if the wrestler can continue to wrestle this match, sit out the next match or be sent home. The Mat Rat coaching staff spends considerable amount of personal time with your wrestler(s) on and off the mat. They can lose their coaches card and ultimately be banned from future tournaments.
Wrestlers need to be reminded that what you do on the Mat reflects on your Team, your Parents and You.
Parents need to also be cautioned that home problems to include marital issues do not need to be brought to any MAT RAT event this includes practice. We are not guidance/marriage counselors. Please for the sake of our Coaches and your Wrestlers leave your personal issues at the door of all events the Mat Rat Club is involved with.
If this can't be done then your wrestlers MOUSA card will be handed to you and you and your wrestler will be asked to leave until your issues are cleared up.
Tournament Payments
Payments for all tournaments need to be done by check made out to the Mat Rat Wrestling Club or by exact cash. All costs are normally provided in the accompanied information provided during the informational meetings prior to practice sessions. We would appreciate it if at all possible that payments be made at the time your wrstler(s) elect to attend a tournament at a minimum of two weeks in advance. We understand that sometimes money is hard to come by especially in the winter and we completely understand. We don't turn down wrestlers who want to compete and can't due to lack of money. The MRWC will fund a wrestler for a tournament that is paid for by a sponsor, however transportation to and from a tournament is up to the parents/guardians unless previously worked out for shared transportation. These issues need to be worked out in advance of the tournament.
Terms: Open = Experienced Wrestlers Only
Novice = 1st and 2nd year wrestlers
Remember if your Wrestler enters at a declared weight class such as 75lbs 12 and under age group which is 11-12 yearolds then he/she must be at that weight or below when they weigh in. The MRWC doesn't suggest cutting weight nor do we condone it unless you are competing in State. We would rather move your Wrestler up a weight class than have them develop health issues. A fully fueled wrestler with energy is better than a weak one at a lower weight class.
Thank you,
Coach Joe
