Rules

Below is the handout we give to all parents of the children who wrestle for the Brookfield Kids Club. We also have the parents and children sign a code of conduct form in order to be a member of our club.

Brookfield Kids Wrestling Club

There is a lot of basic information you need to know. Please read carefully and retain this paper for future reference. Direct any questions you have to Brad Cupp or Matt Parn.
1. Fees – The fee to join the club is $45.00. This helps cover the cost of the mandatory insurance and card required by USA Wrestling and a team t-shirt.

2. The Singlet- There will be a $50.00 deposit required at the time of sign ups for the singlet, warm up pants, and shorts. They are property of the club and are loaned to the wrestler during the wrestling season. (Washing instructions are provided). If the apparel is promptly returned after the wrestler’s FINAL tournament, and in good shape, no charge will be incurred by the parent(s). But if the singlet is returned in poor condition (ie: lots of snags, holes, rips or stains) , the parents will be obligated to replace the singlet which costs $40.00.

3. Practices- Practices are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening from 5:45-7:15 p.m. In the Brookfield Elementary Basement. Wrestlers should wear a t-shirt and comfortable, loose fitting shorts free of zippers, buttons or snaps, and wrestling shoes to practice. Parents are not allowed in the practices.

4. Weight- The club does not encourage weight loss for the wrestlers. A wrestler is not bound to a certain weight for the entire season. The weight classes are generally in 5 pound increments and you can change as needed. But, the weight you sign up for, for a particular tournament, is typically binding. If your child does not make that weight, he will not wrestle. Give yourself some leeway. If you have any questions, ask.

5. Equipment- Wrestling shoes are required. These shoes must be worn only in the wrestling room and to tournaments. You may purchase these new or used. Sometimes parents will sell the previous year’s equipment for a discounted price. Headgear is Mandatory. Athletic bags to carry gear to practices and tournament are recommended. Items such as tape for laces, Band-Aids, ice packs and ace wraps are recommended.

6. Tournaments- We encourage you to have your child participate in as many tournaments as possible. This is the best experience for the wrestler. The fee is generally $12-15 per tournament. However, no wrestler is obligated to enter any tournaments. There will be days assigned to collect money for the tournaments. If you don’t pay on, or by this day, you will not be entered in the tournaments that we were collecting for. NO EXCEPTIONS.

7. E-Mail- In an attempt to save time and money for copies, I would like to have everyones e-mail address to send updates and newsletters too. For those who don’t have email I will give your child a copy at practice in a timely fashion. I will send out at least one newsletter every two weeks. We encourage all parents to be informed and to participate in this great sport. This will also please your wrestler more then you know.

8. Practices/Snow days- Typically if school is cancelled due to snow, then we are cancelled.

9. Birth Certificate- This is a requirement of the Missouri USA Wrestling Association. Wrestlers are not able to get a membership card and participate without a copy of their birth certificate submitted with the application for membership.

10. Match/Record keeping- The parents will be given a sheet to keep track of their childs wins and losses. This includes getting the opponents name and club affiliation, and actual score. This record will be very useful to the coach’s when Districts arrive. This record will enable the coach to seed (place) your wrestler at the best position possible. If you don not care how your child is seeded at Districts, then a form is not necessary to maintain. If it is important to you how your child is seeded, then please use the form provided.

11. Brackets- At the tournaments, your child will be placed in a bracket. This could be an 8- man bracket, or a 16 man bracket, or even a round robin bracket.

12. Goals- Our goals are to teach the fundamentals of wrestling, good sportsmanship, team spirit, friendship, and to have fun. We want this experience to be a pleasant one for your child and you, the parents. Please come and join in the fun.

13. Coaches’- Our club is run by a board. The board decides on who will be the coach’s and how many coaches are needed for each particular year. If you are not chosen to be a Coach you are not allowed to be in the practices.

14. Practice Rules: Each wrestler is to act accordingly, if your child becomes a distraction or disrespects anyone they will be asked to leave, and depending on what the board decides may not be allowed back into the club. This is once again the board’s decision.

15. Tournament Rules: It is the parent’s responsibility to watch their own child at tournaments. If you feel like you can’t do this, you have no business going to tournaments. Each tournament usually has anywhere from 300-600 kids participating. It is not the coach’s job to baby-sit.
