CHESNUT AND SUAREZ ARE TOPS FOR CAJON AT MT
SAC

Girls place 14th and boys 16th out of an 18 team field. In
all,
there are 450 schools in the Southern Section. Cajon girls
place 121st out of the 216 who qualified in all divisions.
Over 240 teams fail to even qualify. Boys were 164th of
225
schools who qualified also beating the over 200 who
failed
to qualify. Not bad. Boys run a click under 90 min team
time
and girls run 106 (minus Lauren Nila who was ill). Chesnut
takes top honor in her final high school meet breaking 20:
00
at SAC with her 19:51. After track, Nikki may be off to Cal
State San Bernardino, possibly with Lauren. McKenzie runs
fifth for Cajon boys as they once again post a good team
time. Scoring this meet as a dual with SAL teams, Cajon
loses to Arroyo Valley by just 1 point (29-28) Cajon
outscores San G 26-29 and Arroyo outruns G (25-28).

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Cajon girls win 4th straight title in dominating fashion.
Boys
fall to Arroyo Valley but defeat San Gorgonio to ease the
pain.

San Andreas League Finals @ Blair Park, San Bernardino
(3mile hilly Cajon course, 84 degrees, 30 mph winds)
[Meet Director- Eric Abrams, Cajon HS]

CAJON GIRLS WIN FOURTH CONSECUTIVE SAN
ANDREAS LEAGUE TITLE AND ARROYO VALLEY BOYS
ROLL TO THEIR FIRST EVER TITLE.

It was a windy, warm day in North San Bernardino Friday
as
SAL runners tackle the new Cajon High School course. In
the girls race, defending champion America Valdes
(Pacific)
holds off a charging duo of Nikki Chesnut and Rebekah
Fraizer of Cajon (21:07) to win again in 2007 with 30 pts .
Valdes runs course best 21:04. The Cajon contingent
places five in the top 12 to record their largest margin of
victory in their four year run. The surprise of the season
came from the race for third place. San Bernardino High
School (68) upset Pacific High School (70), beating them
by
two points to capture a CIF berth. San Bernardino
benefited
greatly by having three All-SAL runners emerge. A last
second pass for 23rd place sealed the CIF berth for the
Cardinals. San Gorgonio was second with 59 pts.
Congratulations to Nikki Chesnut, Lauren Nila and
Michelle
Fletcher of Cajon who will leave Cajon with four SAL titles.

The boy’s race was tight at the halfway point. It was then
that
George Estrada and Hector Gomez of Arroyo Valley pulled
far away from the pack. Estrada, the senior, cruised to
victory
with an impressive 16:44. Gomez was second in 16:55.
The
rest of the field was 40 seconds back. Sophomore Tim
Abarca of Arroyo Valley was a surprising fourth helping
the
Hawks lock down their first ever SAL Championship over
Cajon (50). The Hawks scored 35 on this day. Defending
SAL champion San Gorgonio couldn’t keep pace with
Cajon
and finished third with 55.

SAL FINALS MEET MOVED FROM SATURDAY 10/27 TO
Friday 11/02

I have just received word that we are moving the SAL
Finals
meet to Novmber 2nd @ Blair Park. Var Girls will run at 2:

and Var Boys will at 3:30pm. Not sure if there will be a
Fun
Run. We will meet at Cajon at 3pm tomorrow unless you
hear otherwise.

SCHOOL CANCELED IN ENTIRE COUNTY AT LEAST FOR
TODAY

I will give you all updates on this site. Our closest fire is
burning down into the city of Running Springs at about
5000'
elevation. Highland and the area around Cajon is below
2000' so it is still far away. Lets all hope that the wind dies
down as it should. Forecast has wind slowing this
afternoon.
Over 138 homes burned in our San Bernardino Mts as of
last night and they showed at least 5 more in Running
Springs in the last hour. Again, our thoughts and prayers
should continue for everyone at this time.
I 215 and parts of the I 210 are closed. All roads to the
mountains are closed.

FIRE REPORT "Little Mountain...Up in Smoke"

Practice is cancelled for at least Monday and Tuesday. Lets
plan to meet for practice Wednesday at Cajon HS @ 3:00.
In
case you didn't know, a fire burned the area around our
course for SAL Finals. I was there with the SBHS coach
watching firefighters save the houses on top of Mirimonte.
If
they were not there, all the houses on that hill would have
been lost. I'm not sure about Blair Park's condition. More
than likely, as long as the wind is settled on Saturday, we
will race. PLEASE STAY INSIDE AN OUT OF ALL THE
SMOKEY AIR. (DO NOT go out and run on your own as the
air quality is at it's worst possible levels. Stay healthy and
call if you have questions. PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND
SMART.

COACH 7:30 pm Monday Night

PLIMMER 5TH AT BOISE, ID DISTRICT CHAMPS

Former SAL Champion Kelsea Plimmer, a senior at Skyview
HS in Boise, ID finishes fifth at her district meet and
qualifies for state. Kelsea ran 20:20. Congratulations
Kelsea, if you read this. She was :47 seconds away from
4th. Her team missed qualifying by two points. A 21:50
time
also qualified an individual for the state meet. That shows
you the quality of runners in CA. We have girls run in the
low
18:00's and not make the state meet.

FIRES

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the families and
friends dealing with the extensive outbreak of fires.
Rebecca
B has been without power all day in Devore.
Our girls team ran against Quartz Hill yesterday. Today,
that
area is under fire attack. Quartz Hill HS and Saugus HS are
now being used as shelters. Saugus HS set the Mt Sac girls
team record just yesterday.
All this is on the 4 year aniversary of the Waterman
Canyon
Fire that put Cajon and other schools students, athletes
and
coaches out of their homes. Coach Bernardy and Tivey lost
their homes that day. Coach Abrams home was badly
damaged and was out of his home for 1/2 a year. I know
what these people are going through and my prayers are
with them. Keep them in mind. (COACH)

DAY AT MT SAC PRODUCES BEST EVER TEAM TIME IN
GIRLS RACE AND CAJON BOYS RUN TIGHTER PACK TIME

Mt
SAC 2007 RESULTS

JV Boys (race 43) JV Girls (race 48) VG (race 50) VB
(race53)

Cajon girls Varsity team time of (1 hour, 44 minutes and
46
seconds) is best single race team time in school history.
Nikki Chesnut cruises to 20:02, making her the #3 best
Cajon girl at Mt Sac. Sarah Sundstrom 2000, has the
school
record there with her 18:20. Former two-time SAL
champion
Kelsea Plimmer ran 19:27 in 2005. Rebekah Fraizer also
moves into the top five all-time girls at Mt Sac with her
20:25,
placing her 14 seconds shy of Cajons #4 best Kim Jordon
who ran 20:11 in 2002. Paola Gonzales runs sub 21:00
with
an impressive 20:53 moving her past #9 best Lauren Nila,
(20:55 in 2005). Paola is tied with Jeniffer Durbin, 2002
time
tying her for #7 al-time girl at Mt Sac.Each runner was 16
seconds away from #6 best Alyda Fletcher (20:37 in
2000).
No other Cajon runner has run under 21:00 at the famed
course.
Cajon was 9th in the race. The 1:44:46 being the best
team
time from a single race moves this team into a HEAD HEAT
tie with the 2002 sophomore team..Minus the fifth
finisher
and adding Sarah Sundstrom's time from another race.
The
Sophomore Champion Team ran 1:48:54 making them the
#6 all-time Sophomore team in Mt Sac History. If you
subtract the fifth of 23:29 and add Sundstroms JR time of
19:23, you get a team time that equals the 2007 Varsity
time.
GREAT JOB COWGIRLS.

Cajon boys, without CJ Sauceda get strong running from
Yovanny Ramirez as they run a strong team time of 1 hour
30 minutes and 09 seconds. It is Cajon's fourth best time
since at least the mid 90's. Cajon's best time of 1:27:07
came in 2006 at CIF prelims. That fast time was fueled by
fast front end times from Cordova and Diaz running sub
-17.
On this day, Duenez runs 17:19 and Suarez runs 17:33.
Our
gap was under 1 minute 30 seconds. Cajon again outruns
San Gorgonio but falls short of Arroyo Valley who ran
1:26:37 in a seperate race. That fast time fueled by 16:17
and 16:17 times by Estrada and Gomez with Gomez
getting
the nod. When scored as a dual meet, AV beats Cajon
23-32.

Best times for Boys at since 1998 races......(Under 18)

Cordova 16:40 (2006) has broke 17 3 times
Thomas 16:56 (2001)
Diaz 17:01 (2006)

GIRLS FRESHMAN (2004) & SOPHOMORE (2002) TEAMS
ON ALL-TIME LIST AT MT SAC

Our Senior girls grouped together in 2004 to win two
major
Invitational Championships at Woodbridge and Mt Sac. As
freshman, they won at Mt Sac and still have the Second
Fastest Div II freshman time in Mt Sac history. Current
members who were on that team are Chesnut, Nila, M.
Fletch and D. Fletch. Their team time can be found at

ABOUT MT SAC INVITATIONAL

The meet started sixty years ago on the famed 2.95 mile
course. Ten schools competed with under 150 runners
total. Back then, it was only boys who ran cross country.
For
the most part, only boys played sports. Remember, this
was
the 1940's.
Today, over 21,000 boys and girls will take to the hills at
the
Mt SAC invitational representing over 500 schools. You
will
also find that some of the best racing will come from
those
girls races. Thank God for change, in this case.

CAJON HAS HISTORY AT Mt SAC

In my first year as Cajon XC coach, I was fortunate to work
with on of the nations best young distance runners (Sara
Sundstrum). Sara became the only CIF Finals qualifier in
school history, boys or girls. She ran 18:20 as a freshman.
She set one of the top freshman times in course history in
2000. In 2002, Cajon had the fastest freshman team in all
divisions at Mt Sac, winning the Division II Freshamn title.
Former standout Kim Jordon ran to a second place finish
in
a race at Mt Sac. Former SAL champion Kelsea Plimmer
finished 2 varsity races in the top 25 at Sac.
Our boys teams always compete tough at Sac as well.
Though losing at SAL, Cajon often rebounds at CIF premils
race to outrun league opponants.

MILESTONE

ONE HUNDRED OPPONENTS FALL VICTIM TO COWGIRLS
SINCE 2000.

Winning the varsity race Wednesday not only put Cajon in
the drivers seat for their fourth consecutive SAL Title, it
marked Cowgirl win number 100. [Equivilant to 36-5 if we
ran duals each season rather than mini's.] That is the
reason for the inflated numbers, however, it is the only
way
to score it acuratly.
Since we run against league opponents three times a year,
each mini victory gives a team a point/win for each team
we
beat. Thus, Cajon has now defeated 100 opponents in all
SAL mini meets and dual meets combined with only 17
defeats, most at the hands of the Thunderbirds from
Yucaipa. Congratulations Cowgirls.

Since 2000

Girls winning percentage in league and duals- 86%
Boys winning percentage in league and duals- 71%

2007 standings now updated. Click LEAGUE button to see.

ANNOUNCMENT

Lets not get too critical for what is not said on this site. By
all
means we do not leave kids names off on purpose. This is
done late at night with my wife and kids still waiting for
daddy to get home. I don't even have the results of the
races
from San G yet. I type these stories from what I
REMEMBER.
Look around people. No other coach is giving this much
coverage about their teams. Not looking for any pats on
the
back..... We get enough of that from many parents. Pat
your
kids on the back. They are the ones who do all the work.
Just understand that all of this is extra. Most kids are
mentioned and when you really run well, we do our best
to
remember it. (Read the Colton Swarm Story)

CAJON GIRLS START SLOW AND POWER TO A
CONVINCING WIN AS CAJON BOYS RACE PAST SAN G TO
FINISH SECOND.

{Times for the meet are unavailable at this time}

Congratulations to Nikki Chesnut who won the SAL mini
#2
passing current SAL champ America Valdez in the second
mile to win easily. The usual suspects Nila, Fraizer and
Gonzales were solid enough to prove too much for the
field.
The suprise of the day was Freshman Dale McKeon who
moved passed Sundstrom, Succow and many teams top
five runners to help seal the deal for the cowgirls.

In the boys race, AV's top two swaped places up front and
Gutierrez barely nips Swarez at the line to finish third.
Duenez faltered a tad just in front of an improving
Sauceda.
Jay Obiakor continues to improve as he finished 4th for
Cajon in 14th over all. N'gai Johnson raced back in the
pack
finishing just behind Cajon's fifth McKenzie back in 24th
and
25th. The 10 runner gap between our fourth and fifth
runners
still remains the difference in being right in the hunt and
struggling to take 2nd.

In JV action, Fletcher wins the girls race going away. Spray,
Camacho and Medrano run well as Cajon wins the
competition. Aaron Chamberlin runs a personal best time
and finishes 3rd in the boys race. Others struggle to reach
potential as San G wins easy.

CAJON GIRLS TAKE 3rd PLACE IN RIVERSIDE-SAN
BERNARDINO COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS DIVISION I
RACE

{Against all San Bernardino Varsity teams from all races
and all divisions, Cowgirls are 6th in the county.Cajon
runs
past RIM of the World and Apple Valley on this day to
name
just a few. Over 50 schools from the county are toppled
by
the Cajon team.}

Cajon girls had an outstanding day at the dual-county
championships Saturday. Minus top five runner Michelle
Succow, who was taking the SAT test, Cajon hangs on for
some hardware at Guasti Park. Although opting out of the
sweepstakes race due to injuries and absentees, Cajon
found themselves in the right race for fast times and
success.
Nikki Chesnut led the way placing 8th overall with a time
of
19:24. The next three runners were soon to follow. Our
top
four runners were seperated by a mere minute. After four
finishers, Cajon was clinging to first. Rebekah Sundstrum
charged ahead with a personal best time of 21:30 to put
Cajon solidly in 3rd. We couldn't ask more from
Sundstrum,
who ended up in the hospital with heat exhustion earlier
in
the season. We missed finishing in second place by 2
points. Knowing that a full team could have clinched
victory
for Cajon, we left Guasti very proud of the cowgirls,
especially Sundstrum. She worked hard knowing that the
team score was swinging on her place as much as anyone
elses in our top five. It was a day to remember. All in all,
Cajon girls were the 5th fastest San Bernardino County
Divison I team. It was the first time ever that Cajon had
three
girls break 20:00 in the same race. Both Nila and Fraizer
clocked in at 19:35 and 19:50 respectivly. Paola Gonzales
ran a solid time under 20:30. In other races, Dale McKeon
placed 30th to earn a medal in the Frosh race and also a
spot on the varsity with her 21:41. She win join Succow
and
the above five in the Varsity race at San G on Wednesday.
The boys were led by Andrew Duenez who race a lifetime
best time of 16:38. Cajon ran only five in the varsity race
as a
strategy move. Although Jay Obiakor battled cramps late
in
the race, he proved himself a valid force in his varsity
debut.
Still, Cajon had five runners under 18:00 minutes for the
first
time in quite a while. Suarez ran off the pace Saturday in
17:30 and will more than likely be ready for battle this
week.
Ngai Johnson had a lifetime best 17:45. CJ Sauceda
clocked just under 18:00. Matt McKenzie took command
in
the JV race to be third fastest for the Cowboys on the day
in
17:42. Good runs were also handed in by Howard and
Ramirez who broke 18:30.

In suprise-like fasion, Jay Obiakor wins varsity dual
against
Victor Valley in 18:35. Fredy Diaz ended up in third place
for
the cowboys. Top seven runners in this race for Cajon
became varsity athletes on this day. Along with Jay and
Fredy, the remaining five were...Yovanny Ramirez, Andrew
Ortiz, Aaron Chamberlin, Eric Severson and Brandon
Guzman. Four of these runners are freshman. Could it be
that they become four runners who may have a shot at
GOLD. Michelle Fletcher finished second in the girls race
in
an event she was running to get in better shape. It is likley
that she is well on her way, finishing in under 22:00.
Runners streaking for GOLD from this race include Briana
Moreno, Shayna Brooks, Corrina Camacho, Ana Medrano
and Ruby Hernandez. Danielle Fletcher Ran in the top 7 as
well assuring possible Varsity Gold.
Boys won 22-39 and the girls won via incomplete Victor
Valley team.

MT CARMEL OFFERS HIGHS AND LOWS FOR CAJON
Mt Carmel Results

Cajon first wants to thank God for answered prayers as
Rebekah Sundstrum seems to be back to her normal silly
self following a tough case of heat exhustion. She was
hospitalized briefly and cleared to go home later that
night.
Humidity played a major factor in the demize of several
other
runners at the meet. We also learned that varsity runner
Bradley Rutledge has suffered a broken left foot. The
diagnosis mearly gives him an excuse for his recent lack
of
performance....J/K Brad. Although it is true that he has
been
falling off the pace do to the broken bone in his foot.
A strong Cajon Senior girls team and Junior boys teams
placed in the top ten in the toughest division. Nikki
Chesnut
placed in the top twenty and brought home a medal. Also
bringing home medals were Rebekah Fraizer in her first
contest of the season. She looked sharp after a few weeks
out of practice. The two boys medals came from the same
race when Jesse Suarez and Andrew Duenez worked thru
the pack from 50 something to finish in the top 20 and 30
respectivley. With a few varsity athletes having off days,
our
teams were unable to finish in the top 20.

WEEK 1 COLTON SWARM RACE REPORT

Colton Swarm Results

CAJON TEAMS TESTED EARLY AT COLTON SWARM

Cajon had several desent performances at the Colton
Swarm. Although the meet was a mess and many athletes
went off course, the ones who found their way around the
three mile maze did fairly well.
The meet started with the Frosh girls race. The course was
still being marked as the horn blew to start the race. The
girls missed a lap in the first mile and were asked to make
up the lap during the third mile. Well, some were asked to
make up a lap. Many further back in the pack skipped the
extra 3/8 of a mile unknown to them and greatly
improved
their time. Cloe' Mason (23:02) to lead our freshman,
raced
passed a rival San G runner before the added lap and
ultimitley finished 100 seconds behind her. Although it
was
not any fault of the runners, it made for a crazy day. The
Junior boys race had many runners throwing up their arms
wondering where to go. Runners from every team had
athletes miss portions of that race due to lack of markings
and course monitors.
All in all, Cajon did fine. The girls was led by Chesnut who
finished second in the Senior race in 19:55. Not bad in the
90+ heat. Nila battled breathing issues to finish second
for
Cajon in 21:37. Gonzales and Sundstrom finished in 22:12
and 22:24. Our suprise of the day came from Sophmore
Elena Herrera who placed fifth for Cajon on a day where
our
team finished 6th. She ran a lifetime personal best 22:49.
Michelle Succow and priviously mentioned Mason rounded
out our top Seven on this day.
The Cowboys outpaced league rivals by the slimist of
margins, beating San G and Arroyo on time and losing to
G
when scoring our league runners invitational style. San G
is
without star runner Fontes, who will likely return in time
for
finals. Arroyo Valley boasts the top two runners in SAL at
this
point in the season. It will be fun once again. Jesse Suarez
clocked in with a time of 17:00 finishing 4th in the JR
race
two spots behind rival Hector Gomez from AV. With
Hector
running up front the entire race, Jesse came from 25th to
4th over the three mile course. Andrew Duenez ran 17:
20's
in the same race. Newcommer N'Gai Johnson fell in the
first
half mile and still finished fourth for Cajon with a personal
best time. CJ Sauceda is quickly comming into form
running
18:03 in the HOT Senior race. Earlier in the Sophmore
race,
Van Howard clocked what would stand as Cajon's fifth
best
time of the day in 18:49.
Following the day, coaches agree "We have too much of a
gap between our number one runner and our number five
runner." To win league, it is gonna take a faster pack time
that that.
