History

Here you will find some of our 21st century team history
and
highlights. (There are no official records recorded for
cajon
cross country so we will keep track of our best marks for
the
present century, (2000 - present).

Prior to the 21st Century.......

Cajon had some quality boys teams in the early 80's.
Although they never captured an SAL title back then, they
were a top notch squad from the inland empire. Names
like Kantu, Quayle, Allen Obrego, Hill, Coffin and Kreeper
led the way in the city of San Bernardino. Notice the name
Quayle? Yes, Coach Quayle was a top area runner back in
the day.
He dipped below 16:00 numerous times in those days to
help pace a very fast Cajon team. A top ranked team from
Barstow was the "Yucaipa" of the 80's. Barstow was the
only thing that stood in the way of SAL titles back then for
Cajon. For a little more history, Barstow 80's, Yucaipa
90's-00's and San Gorgonio since 04 have stood in the
way of an SAL title for our boys. However, Cajon did
capture their lone SAL title in 95 when Barstow and
Yucaipa were absent from the league. In Recent Years, San
Gorgonio and Arroyo Valley stood between us and our
first title of the 21st century. We did lose an SAL title
in 04 on a tiebreaker to the G Men. In 2009, Cajon was
not goint to be denied. After placing third in our first
meet, the cowboys battled back to win the next two and
capture their first title in 13 years and second in school
history.
Prior to 2000, our girls program was just another sport.
Our girls program never competed for a shot at a title in
those days. Top runners such as Alyda Fletcher in the late
90's and 00 was an example of the comming future. She
ran a school record time for three miles at 18:46. The
cowgirls, like the boys, had to deal with a tough Yucaipa
team in the 90's and beyond. The Yucaipa squad from
1997 were National Champions. Even still, Cajon's girls
were improving into the future three time defending SAL
champions.

Developments since 2000.

School.

our

Sarahs time stands in top 20 all-time Freshman best at Mt
SAC.

July 2001.... Coach Tivey retires from coaching and
Abrams
brings on Russell Quayle, former Cajon runner in the 80's
to
coach.
August 2001...Hal Bernardy comes back for a second stint
of coaching as our team size continues to grow.

September 2001...Cajons girls led by Sophmore Sarah
Sundstrom and newcommers Kimberly Jordon and Jennifer
Durbin along with Captian Alyda Fletcher capture the
Hi-Desert Invitational scoring 37 points against 13 teams.

November 2001...Cajon teams finish 2nd once again
behind Yucaipa. The boys tie with Colton for second. The
girls finish 10th and boys 12th in heats at CIF premils.
Sundstrom and Thomas earn 1st team All-League honors.

2002 Season....Cajon Girls finish 2nd in league. Boys
finish
3rd.Sundstrom, Jordon, Naranjo earn 1st Team All-League
honors. The girls finish 9th and boys 12th in Div II heat.
Mike
Hernandez turned in a respectable season ending race.

2003 Season..... Both boys and girls squads tied for 3rd in
the league this season. We failed to make it to CIF by
virtue
of losing the tiebreaker.

Kim Jordon earned all-league honors for the girls and
Trent
Greenan for the boys. The lowlight of our season were
result of the fires which caused many of our athletes to
evacuate their homes and forced our team to leave the Mt
SAC invitational early. Coach Abrams suffered significant
damage to his home and former coach Hal Bernardy and
Debbie Tivey lost their homes. Days later, Coach Quayle
watched as the flames inched close to his home in the
desert. It was a forgettable season.

2004 Recap
October 30, 2004 was a day for the record books. Why,
you
ask? Well the Cajon girls cross country team won their first
ever SAL title. Kelsea Plimmer paced the field for our first
ever SAL league champion to boot. Our boys ran their
hearts
out just minutes after the girls victory to finish in a tie
with
San Gorgonio high school. They lost the league title to San
G on a tie breaker.

The Story
The Cajon girls program rose to the challange of a strong
San Gorgonio team to capture our first ever SAL title @
San
G's home course. Kelsea Plimmer covered the San G
course in 19:23 overcomming an early race challenge
from
teamate Lauren Nila who finished 2nd. Nikkie Chesnut was
4th followed by Angelica Lopez 12th and Danielle Fletcher
in
15th. With cajon racing without top five runner Michelle
Fletcher and a usual top five having an off day, San G
made
it a bit close at the end falling 4 points short of the
cowgirls.
Cajon had four runners make the all-SAL team. (Plimmer,
Nila, Chesnut, Lopez)
The boys race was interesting to say the least. Cajon had
an awsome performance as a team. "They ran their hearts
out." In the end, we finished in a tie with (host) San G at
50-50. They won the league title in a 6th runner tie
breaker.
Sure we were a bit disappointed. There were a few
opportunities that we could have faired better in but we
could ask nothing more of our guys out there (hup hup).
In a
time
when our 3-5 guys needed to do better, they did their
best.
We'll take it. Cajon trailed both San G and San Bernardino
going in to the final meet. We ran past San Bernardino and
gave San G everything we could throw at them. They
deserved to win. Cajon was led by Ulmer once again in
under 17 minutes. Alex Aguirre ran a personal best 16:59
to
place 2nd for cajon. Chris Cordova picked up the final
All-SAL patch with his 14th place finish.
In the JV race finale, Rae Anne Resendez placed 2nd and
earned a spot on the CIF team with Holly Crise who earned
her spot on CIF team after running great at Mt Sac.
Carsten
Galindo ran well enough in his JV race to earn himself a
spot on the CIF roster with Matt Younkman.

2005 RECAP

As we prepare for the 2006 season, we reflect back on a
somewhat dissapointing 2005 season where we faded
awat down the stretch to finish second in the boys and in
a
tie for 1st in the girls SAL bid. Kelsea Plimmer stuck
around
long enough to do her part as she cruised to victory in the
girls championship race. Athletes receiving SAL honors
include Ybarra, Patterson, Cordova, Diaz, Ulmer, Carlisle,
Nila and Plimmer.Earlier in the season, Sr. Kameron Ulmer
became the first Cajon XC runner to break 16 minutes for
3
miles in the new millinium. Kelsea Plimmer became the
first ever back to back SAL champion in Cross Country.
Cajon boys also captured their first even SAL mini victory
over all other SAL opponents.

2006 Recap

Cajon Girls Won their third consecutive SAL title over
upstart
Pacific. Newcommers Kim Gallo, Rebekah Fraizer and
Paola Gonzales teamed with Chesnut, Nila Carlisle and
Fletcher to win dispite losing two-time SAL champion
Kelsea Plimmer. Nikki Chesnut finished 2nd to Pacific's
America Valdez. Nila, Fraizer and Gonzales earn all-SAL
honors.Cajon Boys ushered in their first SAL individual
champion in recent memory when Chris Cordova broke
the
tape in 16:28 at Blair Park. The boys finished second to
San
G for the third consecutive year. Diaz and Sauceda earn
all-SAL honors.Both teams repeated a mediocre
performance at CIF Prelims in Mt SAC .Again, it was a
week
too late as the boys once again out ran San G.

2007 recap

Girls win 4th consecutive SAL title. New Talent helps us
achieve goals. Chesnut finishes second to America Valdez
of Pacific. Cajon Girls Lauren Nila, Michelle Fletcher,
Danielle Fletcher, Randy Spray and Nikki Chesnut leave us
with 4 titles.
Boys are out dualed once again for SAL title, this time by
Arroyo Valley. Jesse Suarez was most consistant runner all
season. New emerging talent from Obiakor, Diaz,
Ramirez. Losing number three runner CJ Sauceda after a
nice career.

2008 Recap

Cowboys Win, Cowgirls add to streak

Cajons finest season didn't start off so hot. Well, the
weather was hot but performance was lack luster. Our
girls scraped by to win by 8 points over San G. Top
runners fell victim to 100 degree heat and we almost were
outraced. Knowing that it was a reloading season, the
cowgirls lined up 7 new runners for varsity at this meet.
After surviving the girls race, our boys came into the meet
without it's top returning runner who did not run this
season. Still, expectations were high. We packed together
but nobody up front to break up San G and Arroyo. We
finished a dissapointing thrid. Cajon went to work and
never looked back, winning the next two meets and
capture their second title in school history, first in 13
years.
