BOYS ECLIPSE TEAM TIME RECORD AT MT SAC
Boys run better at Mt Sac (1:23:39) and fall one point away from 9th in heat. Julio Ayala becomes first Cajon athlete to run sub 16:00 at Sac with his 14th place finish and time of 15:52. Felix Garza and the rest of the gang set PR at Mt Sac as well.
Girls have Sole and Giles go under 20:00 again. Still, Giles is the only one to improve her time and the girls fail to improve team time. Team finishes 11th in heat with 1:45:15.

HALF DOZEN IN A ROW FOR COWGIRLS & COWBOYS CAPTURE TITLE IN DEFENSE

SAN ANDREAS LEAGUE FINALS
ARROYO VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL
OCTOBER 31, 2009 (8:00AM)

Ideal conditions for racing brought out hundreds of cross country fans for
this anticipated SAL finals. The stage was set for drama and boy did drama
unfold.

SETTING THE STAGE:
Coming into the two races, there was no clear favorite. On the girls side,
Cajon dominance was tested at the second SAL meet where San Gorgonio flexed
their muscle and came away with the win. A strong/young Pacific squad
placed third by a mere two points at that meet leaving no clear favorite for
today's race. On the boys side, Cajon won the first two meets, however, San
Gorgonio was close without their injured number one runner. This meant that
Cajon could not stumble and needed to improve to win at finals.

HOW THINGS SHOOK OUT:
At 8:00 am sharp, the girls tackled the course. Defending champion
Antoinette Padilla of San G set a very fast pace from the start. Sole of
Cajon, Maldonado of Pacific and Garcia of Arroyo Valley kept pace for the
first mile when Padilla and Sole made a move at the 1700m mark. Midway
through, the defending champion Padilla shifted into a gear that no others
could find as she cruised to her title defense in impressive fashion,
winning in 18:21 for 3 miles. Cajon's Sole (18:39) held off a charging
Garcia (18:44) for second. Maldonado (Pacific) and Avila (Colton), both
freshman rounded out the top five. Both Garcia and Avila qualify for CIF as
individuals. The battle heated up in the remaining spots as San G and Cajon
shuffled for position in the closing mile. Cajon placed three in the top
seven and San G had four in the top eleven. Talk about close. You could
point to several key finishes and places that lead to this very close
outcome. Behind Padilla, two packs developed. What really helped the
Cowgirls was winning those pack battles. Sole led the chase pack to the
finish line and Gagner (19:40) led the second pack to the line. The story of
the day aside from Padilla's dominance was a recovery from an early fall by
Amberleen Lee that nailed down the victory for Cajon, handing the Cowgirls
their sixth consecutive SAL title.
Lee fell in the second hundred meters of the race and got up in 36th place.
Bloody and bruised, she managed to bounce through the pack to run a personal
best time and finished 13th, ahead of San G #5 runner.

When the dust had settled from a great girls race, the boys kicked up some
dust of their own. The early pace was set by Christian Garcia of Pacific.
Home course favorite Tim Abarca held pace during the first mile. Meanwhile,
somewhere in the middle of the pack early on was Julio Ayala of Cajon.
Ayala, typical of his style, raced past runners and took the lead just
before the midway point. The only chaser was Andres Martinez of San G. Ayala
(15:35) nailed down the victory in the last 800m and finished with a
blistering kick to win by 12 seconds over Martinez. Abarca ran very well and
finished third a few clicks ahead of early race leader Garcia of Pacific.
Both runners cracked the 16 minute barrier. Yovanny Ramirez turned in a
lifetime best 16:02 to finish 5th after finishing 11th at the last SAL meet.
It was his performance and that of James Stallworth (Cousin of 1970's
Steeler Hall of Famer John Stallworth) running 16:28, who impressed coaches
in launching them to a second straight title. They, along with Garza,
Vanderveer and Rutledge all finished in the top 13. San Gorgonio placed
three runners ahead of Cajon's third, but Cajon got six in front of G's
fifth to help in their quest for a repeat. Only five of the top fifteen
runners in the boys race will return next season.

Cajon Girls Take Varsity Race at Mt Sac!!!!
Congratulations the the Varsity cowgirls. Led once again by the consistant Kanani Sole (19:12), The cowgirls got good runs from Giles, Gagner, Bush and Lopez to win with 106 points. Sole raced in fifth position the entire race and outran SAL closest competitor by over 30 seconds.
Cowboys take 9th in a tough heat led by Ayala and a great run by Felix GArza 16:19.

Cajon has much improved performance at Roubidoux Invite in 100 degree heat

Ayala is second fastest and Sole is third fastest at the fun meet. No Pressure leads to a good time. Cajon boys really had a good day. Yovanny Ramirez had a much needed good race with a PB 16:30. Garza runs well with slight injury and Vanderveer is as consistant as the Summer Heat. Rutledge and Stallworth must be saving it for finals, I hope. We are better and that is good. Girls run better but still have work to do. Emily Lopez runs in second for half the race and fades to 10th in Frosh race. Bouthier and Saavedra run 15th and 17th. Giles goes off course and falls from 2nd to 10th and recovers to finish 4th. Sundstrom runs really well 21:00 and is improving. Temperature was 96 at race start. Sole leads Soph race until final 80m and finishes second. 19:13 was her time. She is very consistent but may need another 20-30 seconds to beat Padilla at finals. We will see is we respond to hard workouts this week and next.

CAJON RUNS INTO IMPROVING SAN G, AND SAN G RUNS AWAY WITH 9 POINT WIN. COWBOYS SURVIVE AGAINST SHORTHANDED SAN G TEAM AFTER RUNNING POOR.

Long gone is the stroll through the SAL as San G proves poised to take back what was once theirs. San G made incredible strides toward titles on Wednesday at Colton. Cajon gets needed wake up call. "It is never easy, NEVER." This is what Cajon coaches are left saying tonight. The good news is that we know that there is a contender. How we respond if what makes you a champion. Although a second place finish at SAL finals for our boys will still take a share of a title, that is not what our boys want. Tomorrow, both boys and girls teams meet at Cajon at 6:30 AM to take steps toward our goals. Coaches have a few ideas on how to get the job done.
A few bright spots on this GLOOMY day were Kanani Sole and Julio Ayala. Sole was 2nd behind Padilla running 19:teens and Ayala won the boys race with his 16:21.

Cajon meets some competition at Yucaipa

BOYS 12TH OF 47 TEAMS
GIRLS 8TH OF 41 TEAMS

It was all in all, a successful day at the Yucaipa invite today. Great weather produces some good times in the Yucaipa foothills. The day was brightened by Sole and Ayala who mounted personal best hill course times. Sole ran in the top ten the entire race and moved into 5th at the line clocking in at 19:13. Ayala was absolutely in DEAD LAST after the start at the 200m mark of the race. He wiggled his way to sixth and a great time of 15:43, one of the best times of the day.
Cajon ran with a heavy heart with the passing of Katie Gagner's grandparent. She herself found a gutsy performance in her that was just what our team needed with only six runners. Wow Katie, someone from above was smilin today girl.
Log on to www.dyestatcal.com for meet times.

CAJON BOYS CAPTURE HI-DESERT CLASSIC; AYALA TAKES INDIVIDUAL TITLE; GIRLS ARE SOLID THIRD WITH SOLE THIRD INDIVIDUAL

It was a day full of adventure, drama, laughs, heat, bus power failures, redneck teeth and fake mustaches. I guess you had to live it to believe it. With that off our chests, Cajon came to Yucca Valley to run. On another very challenging course, the fifth tough course of the season, Cajon ran to win. With our cowgirls up against ranked teams in Serrano and Yucca Valley, our ladies held their own, making teams work hard. Sole (20:28) ran in third ahead of very accomplished runners from YV and Serrano. With Gagner absent, good runs were turned in by Bush and Lopez to give us depth once again. Haley Sanner (21:54) was a huge suprise running third for the cowgirls. Our consistant Marisela ran 20:51. Our JV squad ran second to Serrano and impressed. Becky Sundstrom bounced back from a lack luster performance at the SAL meet to do very well.
The JV boys dominated, placing five in the top six. Jacob Ewell was the race winner in 18:59. Carlos Trinadad ran third in a time of 19:14. Severson, Minchez and Ramirez of the Urban variety run 19:20's and 19:30's. We scored 19 pts to Norte Vista's 64.
Julio Ayala never looked back in his rematch with the Norte Vista freshman duo of Caro y Caro. His 16:17 is a course record. His win inscribes his name on to the same trophy at Ryan Hall, who once ran 15:52 and 16:22 on the old course. His lone point went a long way to helping Cajon take home the travel trophy. Cajon placed five in the top 14 to crush the competition. Our 41 points bested the 59 and 66 put up by NV and defending Champion Burroughs Ridgecrest, a team that was third in State a few years back. Our top five were all better that 17:43.

Times from RED HILL below.

Cajon wins Shootout with G

Results are in....
Triple digit temperature and 40mph wind gusts ruled the day at Blair Park in San Bernardino, however, Cajon's teams and a pair of San Gorgonio runners ruled the night. After pushing the start time back to the early evening hours, SAL runners were poised to test their strength and wits in this greatly improving league. The highly difficult Cajon course proved no match for the leagues top two runners Antoinette Padilla and Greg Valdivia of San Gorgonio High school as the each cruised to victory in their respective varsity races, each winning by over 20 seconds and setting course records on a vicious course. It was behind those dominating performances that unveiled true drama.
In the girls race, San Gorgonio placed three in the top seven but defending champion Cajon impressed with their depth held on by placing four in the top ten and their fifth in 14th to win by 10 points over San G.
The boys race came down to several duals to the finish between several runners. Look at the results to see how close this one was. Cajon nips San Gorgonio at the line to post a 36-37 victory. Cajon and San Gorgonio accounted for twelve of the top fourteen spots in this "Amazing Race."

WOODBRIDGE REPORT

Times still to come.

The Cajon Senior Boys stole the show at the Woodbridge Invitational. The cowboys finished in a 95 point tie and won the division on a tie-breaker. Julio Ayala bounced his wat thru the field and finished 2nd in 15:30, best all-time Cajon runner at the invitational. The cowboys put five seniors under 17:00 and impressed many onlookers. Felix Garza 16:32, Bryan Vanderveer 16:52, Rutledge 16:57 an James Stallworth 16:57 all recorded lifetime best times. Kyle Baty led frosh runners in 18:40, Jacob Ewell was top Soph in 17:40 and Yovanny top Junior in 16:39.
Girls Varsity fell short of a top six plaque with an 8th place finish. Kanani Sole ran 19:03, good enough for the best ever Cajon time at Woodbridge. On a day where Maricela Giles 20:09 struggled, Amberleen Lee redeemed her 2008 trip to the ER with a solid 19:42. Gagner was 20:28 and Sanner 21:06. Cajon left the door open to a few teams in the SAL on this day. Michelle Bush ran her way on to the varsity team with a 21:12 lifetime best performance. Moreno also PR'd with a 21:30.

NORTE VISTA MANAGES TO STEAL THE SHOW IN BOYS VARSITY RACE AFTER CAJON DOMINATES VARSITY GIRLS AND BOTH JV RACES

Cajon comes out swinging a day after a tough and successful meet the day before. Fatigue was evident all day, but not as it was in the boys race. A pair of twins proved too much for Ayala on this recovery day. Other Cajon runners gave it all they had left but fell short in the closing mile. A tough Norte Vista team took it to us Wednesday, but not to the girls. Led my Sole and Giles, cowgirls rope the competition with little trouble on their recovery day. JV races were won by Armando Juarez and Stephanie Baeza by large margins. Both athletes earning varsity spots. JV results were not recorded by home team. Varsity times are posted below.

Ayala 18:11, Diaz 19:46, Ramirez 19:51, Vandy 19:54, Garza 20:06, Rutledge 20:09, Cookie 20:20.
Sole 22:50, Giles 23:05, Sanner 24:42, Lee 24:53, Sundstrom 25:09, Baeza 26:14, Bush 26:40, Bautista 27:37

COWGIRLS OUTRUN BONITA HS AND UPLAND HS TO WIN RED HILL INVITATIONAL RELAY

Sole and Giles prove to be best duo winning the relay and leading Cajon to team title. Team of Gagner/Lee place 7th and Bush/Sanner take tenth in the 36 pair meet. Girls beat Bonita by a mere 10 seconds to grab the championship. Bonita is a ranked CIF DIII team that places 3rd in CIF Prelims and 9th at finals in 2008.

COWBOYS RUN AWESOME AT SIX MILE RELAY

Cowboys run out of their minds to finish 20 seconds behind Upland, who was 3rd at the Div 1 State Championships a season ago. Although the Upland team graduated four seniors, we proved to be great competition on Tuesday. Duo of Ayala/Garza placed second and teams of Rutledge/Stallworth ran crazy and impressed coaches. Ramirez and Diaz struggled some but finished strong. All three teams, like the girls, placed in top ten. We tied Upland in points and lost by 20 seconds in this timed event.

CAJON RUNS WELL AT MT SAC 1.92 MILE

TIMES POSTED click (STANDINGS)

Cajon chooses to run against really tough campetition early this season at Fastback Shootout. Teams like Edison, Rancho Cucamonga, Murrieta Valley, Yucca Valley, Marina, Great Oak, and many other CIF ranked team were at this meet. The course was one grove loop, switchbacks, poop out, over the saddle and down to airstrip.... to the finish line.
Julio Ayala ran a solid 10:18 and Kanani Sole ran 12:35 to lead Cajon. All times are available by clicking standings icon. The field for each race was very full and if you got caught up in the pack at the start, it meant a tough climb back to the top 40 for a medal position in a short time. This course was a mile short of the normal 2.92.
At the end of the day, 11 athletes medaled. Most impressive of the day goes out to Jacob Ewell and Emily Lopez who were suprise medal winners in the coaches eyes. The other newcomer who medaled along with Lopez was Sophmore Katie Gagner. Running in the days top division made this task difficult. Great job to all the Cajon runners who battled the hills.
