CAJON WRAPS UP SEASON BEATING S.A.L. RIVALS AGAIN
Mt Sac two-mile + course chosen for CIF Prelims due to
area fires, heat and lack of medical staff. Still Cajon runs
better in the heat than earlier at the Mt Sac invite.
Cajon had such a bad day at the invite on October 25th, I
chose to skip writing a meet report. This time around was
a lil' better. Julio Ayala led the way for the boys with an
11:12 on the two loop, saddle and reservoir 2.12 mil
course. Boys beat 3 teams in their heat and 13 D1 teams
overall.
The girls were led by Marisela Giles who finished in 13:58.
All other scorers were in the 14's. The cowgirls beat four
teams and finished 11th in heat and beat 16 D1 teams.
Girls defeat REV in heads-up scoring for first time ever.
Each team was missing a top five runner.
All other SAL teams are outrun by Cajon again this week.

2008 BOYS AND GIRLS SAN ANDREAS LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
"WERE YOU THERE"
After four consecutive SAL titles in the books, Cajon girls
dominate SAL Finals cross country at Pacific HS with six
new varsity runners. The cowgirls placed five girls in the
top ten win win their fifth title in dominating fashion. A
wave of Cajon runners desended down the swithbacks to
score a mere 29 points. San Gorgonio’s Antonette Padilla
took top individual honor outlasting Marisela Giles of
Cajon by close to 100 meters. The girls teams from
Pacific, Arroyo Valley and San Gorgonio followed Cajon.
The race set up an unusual three way tie for second place.
By virtue of SAL Finals place being used as a tiebreaker,
Pacific and Arroyo will join Cajon to represent the SAL at
the CIF meet in Walnut, Ca on Nov 15th.
It was a long wait for Cajon since their first and only SAL
cross country title back in 1995. With that being said, SAL
boys teams clashed at Pacific to break a log jam atop the
standings. Defending champion Arroyo Valley and three
time champion San Gorgonio found themselves in a dead
heat with a resilliant Cajon squad heading into finals.
Cajon, coming off an upset win at San Gorgonio had to
prove their win was no fluke on a hilly course at Pacific.
They say, “Practice makes perfect.” Well, over at Cajon,
they believe that “Perfect practice makes perfect.” Those
practice sessions on the SAL finals course paid off. Cajon
boys, a la the girls, placed five in the top ten and won
their first SAL title since 1995 and second ever. The race
for individual champ was over from the start when the
“man on a mission” Hector Gomez of Arroyo Valley set a
blistering pace with no takers. Once again, it was a sea
Green that desended off Perris Hill to victory. Cajon,
second place Arroyo Valley and San Gorgonio will live to
race another day at Mt Sac on Nov 15th.

Message to Cajon Cross Country Athletes
Dear Athletes,
I want to take this time to thank you all for the work you
have put into making this season our finest. I do not
measure success by the amount of championships we win.
Sure, I would like to see you acheive that kind of success,
however, it is not what is important. I believe we have
seen more individual and team success this season than
any other. Our Varsity teams are comprised of only one
girl who ran Varsity last season and only three boys. With
the help of both newcommers and improving JV athletes,
we have put ourselves in position to win SAL. Our season
is already a success. We know how hard we have trained.
It has been many miles since MAMMOTH. We have
survived injuries and weathered some storms, still we are
peaking at the right time. Nothing has come easy. The
SAL
has some quality runners and nothing will come easy in
the future. At the end of the season, be sure that you
have
left everything that is in your heart.....out on the course. If
we do this, we have no reason for disappointment no
matter the outcome.
Thank you for each and every commitment to the TEAM.
Thank you seniors for giving it your all thru the years.
Thank you everyone for your efforts at practice and in
races. Thank you PARENTS for your commitment to your
kids. LETS FINISH THIS.......HUP HUP (Coach)

Cowboys/Cowgirls Round-Up Competition at San G
Cowboys notch win number 99 since 2000. Girls hit 119.
All four teams prevail at San G in 95 degree heat. Varsity
teams position themselves well heading into SAL Final
meet on November 1st.
Our JV girls score 16 points vs. SAL competition with
Amberleen Lee and Nataly Bautista pacing the field. Lee
won with Bautista not far behind. Running in the top six
for Cajon were Dominiani, Herrera and Camacho.
JV Boys had a tougher task in beating a strong front three
from San G. The Spartans went 1-2-3 followed by a sea of
green. Cajon packed in at 4-5-6-7-8-9 followed by
some
help from Colton HS to outrun San G 31-34. James
Stallworth led Cajons charge with help from Van Howard,
Sergio Avila, Chris Blom, Walter Delgado and Matt
McKenzie. Erik Dulock had a nice run as well.
In Varsity competition, the cowgirls rattled off five of the
top ten spots to dominate with the same score the boys
ran (33). The closest competiton was distant but still a
nice battle for the second spot. San G scored 68, Arroyo
72 and Pacific 74. Marisela Giles takes top honors for
Cajon finishing third behind Padilla and Rawel of San G.
Kanani was once again in the mix finishing fourth. Other
top ten runners were Sundstrom, Corneliussen and
Fraizer.
Coaches had a feeling the day was going to be good for
our improving boys squad and our toughts were
confirmed, however, it did not come easy. With Valdivia of
San G winning and Stewart and his speed in contention,
Cajon had much work to do with 600m to go. Ayala
needed to be second, ahead of Stewart (SG) and Gomez
(AV). His kick left no doubt as he closed in on Valdivia as
he ran out of real estate. Ramirez needed to outrun
Duenez ran out of his mind with Ramirez closing to finish
5-6, ahead of AV runner Abraca, which was a pre-race
demand form Cajon coaches. Vandeveer, with 300m
remaining found himself seconds behind three San G
runners. He surged passed two prior to the finish to
secure our victory. Rutledge made a critical late race pass
to ice it. As good as we ran, there is much to be done to
beat San G and defending champs Arroyo Valley on
November 1st. We put ourselves in position and are
poised to finish the job.
San Andreas Lg cluster meet #2
Cajon boys win nail biter, girls win in a rout!
San Gorgonio CA
San Andreas League teams clash at San Gorgonio for some
high paced drama. Antoinette Padilla and Shawndrea
Rawal of San G pace the field at their home course in
impressive fashion. Both girls race under 20 minutes in
front of their home crowd. Still, it was the Cajon Cowgirls
who placed five in the top ten to secure the top spot.
Marisela Giles and Freshman Taylor Sole led the cowgirls
to their eighth consecutive SAL mini win 33-68 over San G
and the rest of the field.
On the boys side, things were much closer. A pack of up
to seven runners paced the field through two miles until
San Gorgonio’s Greg Valdivia broke loose with no takers.
He cruised to victory ahead of Cajon’s Julio Ayala who
clocked 16:13, four seconds back of Valdivia. The race
for the team win was achieved with some late race passes
on the track. San Gorgonio entered the final 300m with a
slim lead over Cajon. Bryan Vanderveer’s surge to the
finish proved strong enough to just edge San Gorgonio
33-35. Arroyo Valley, winner of the first SAL Mini was
third.

Inland Empire County Championships
All runners set personal best times.... for 2.75 miles.
Country Campionship course of 2.75 miles calls for fast
times. Many good efforts were turned in. Cajon boys had
strong runs by Ayala and Ramirez to lead Cajon to 9th
place finish one place ahead of San Gorgonio. Ayala and
Ramirez out kick Valdivia and Stewart respectivly to lead
the cowboys.
The cowgirls were paced by Marisela Giles and run passed
rival San Gorgonio. Top freshman impress field. Sole,
Corneliussen and Sanner run great to give us a glimpse of
our promicing future. Junior Becky Sundstrom and Senior
Rebekah Fraizer complete our top five with strong back
up
by Katie Warrick finishing with same time as Fraizer.
Sanner ran in DIV III Varsity race placing in the top thirty
and finishing only seconds behind defending SAL champ
America Valdez. Sanner has moved from Cajon's number
15 girl to a solid position in out top seven. She had the
fifth best time of the day for Cajon. (Times will NOT be
posted for 2.75 mile course but can be found at
dyestatcal.com.)
Huntington Beach Invite
Cajon GOLD TEAM hits the beach on a cool day to walk
the pier, get their feet wet in the Pacific and play a little
beach vollyball. Prior to the fun, our teams competed
against DIV I competition on the tough course by the sea.
Boys failed to place any runner sub 17:30. Few runners
ran to potential.
Girls ran very well. Varsity team places 10th in a 26 team
DIV I field. Leading the way for Cajon was Kanani Sole,
clocking 19:52. She placed 36th in the large field and was
one of the top freshman in the entire meet. Cajon
Cowgirls had a fantastic run from another freshman Haley
Sanner, 20:thirtysomething!!!!! She ran 28:45 on a flat
course early in year, LOOK IT UP. Warrick also ran well for
Cajon.

High Desert Classic - Yucca Valley
Saturday, September 27th, 2008 Marchris Park - Yucca
Valley
Thanks to Jay Stepp for the results and summary
Burroughs (R) takes Boys - Host School Girls
Boys - Caleb Rosales leads Burroughs (R) to Boys' title
Girls - Katarina Katowiak leads host Yucca Valley to the
title
The 14th Annual Hi-Desert Classic was a smaller team
affair this year with nine schools making the trek to
Machris Park in Yucca Valley. Although a low key affair,
the runners participating, battled each other for
supremacy
in the of the desert. An extremely hilly course that seems
to have no flat spots and a cloudless day with the sun
beating down on the competitors, the hometown Lady
Trojans & the Boys from Burroughs Ridgecrest gained top
honors for the day. Not only did they defeat the
competition, they also defeated the 99 degree heat to
come out on top.
Burroughs was led by a one-two punch from Caleb
Rosales (1st-17:06), & Sean Malone (2nd-17:14) pacing
their
team to a 13 point victory of second place. The Cowboys
from Cajon eeked out second place by a single point
over Yucca Valley. Cajon's Julio Ayala (4th-17:40) just
out-kicked three Trojans, Caleb Metzger (5th-17:40),
Mike
Korcha (6th-17:41), & Eric Snyder (7th-17:42), to secure
the runner-up position. Hesperia's Daniel Gonzalez was
the 3rd individual finisher in 17:32. Rounding out the top
ten were Joseph Martinez-Hesperia (17:55), Yovanny
Ramirez-Cajon (17:59), & Nathan Wiley-Burroughs (18:
00).
The Varsity Girls race was dominated by Yucca Valley.
Katarina Ratkowiak successfully defended her title,

Cajon Girls put seven NEW varsity runners in the SAL field
and run to victory in SAL #1. With Fraizer and Lee out,
Giles, Sole, Warrick and Sundstrom lead the charge. Cajon
outscores San G 42-50 to win their race.
Cajon Boys place 5 in top 12 and 6 in top 13 but finish
third. Lots of work to be done on the boys side. Strong
runs were turned in by Severson and Garza to help Cajon
stay close, eight points back of first place AV.
JV teams shined as expected in the 100 degree heat to
dominate both races. Camacho and Rutledge win going
away in their respective races.

9/20/08 (RESULTS BELOW STORY)
Another good day for both teams at Woodbridge Invite.
Amberleen Lee is doing great and came back with the
team.
I do not have all the times for the meet but will submit
meet report from what I have.
More PR's (Personal Records) were set today. Many Novice
race athletes improved grealty.
In the Frosh girls race, Kanani ran TOUGH. She placed
sixth in a personal best time of 19:37, Cajon's best time
of the day. Miranda moved thru the pack to place 17th in
20:11. Grande of Arroyo Valley was off the pace in 30th.
Michelle Bush finished a mere 36 seconds behind Arroyo's
number three runner in 21:31. Haley Sanner, who is still
learning how to race is improving, running 22:05.
Ashleigh rounded out the top five for Cajon's seventh
place team with a PR (23:52)
In other races, Yovanny placed 11th (16:31) in the
Sophmore boys race, fading from fourth early. Eric
Severson had a PR day with his 17:19. Our top Seniors
were Duenez in 17:11, McKenzie in 17:30 and Chris Blom
in 18:37.
The TEAM OF THE DAY was our Junior boys, finishing 4th
and taking home a plaque. Led by a powerful charge from
top boy Julio Ayala (16:07) Cajon muscled their way
through a slow start to do very well. Felix Garza ran 17:
15, suprising coaches after battling a hamstring injury. He
was followed by Bryan (17:27), Brad (17:38) and Cookie
(17:42). They are a pack that we hope will march forward.
Great Job Juniors. GREAT JOB EVERYONE
Marisela, after a very bad start passed over 80 runners to
place 32nd in a sub 20 performance. Katie Warrick ran
awesome after a slow start to march thru to a 20:43.
Sundstrom, Bautista and Lee closed out the 15th place
team finish. If you add Nani and Miranda, We finish 8th
and ahead of Canyon....WOW

CAJON RUNS TOUGH ON FLAT, MUDDY CERRITOS PARK
COURSE
Many personal records were set on this cool day in
Cerritos. Fifty two runners kicked up mud and laid some
down on the sidewalks and grassy swamp at Cerritos Park.
Julio proved his mid sixteen time on Thursday was no
joke. Today he clocked 15:49 and lead Cajon to a very fast
team time. The top five runners averaged 16:24 and we
placed all seven cowboys under 17:30.
Marisela held off a charging Kanani Sole to run personal
best times of 19:37 and 19:41. Miranda Corneliussen
clocked in at 20:03, Katie Warrick (20:33), Sundstrom (20:
43). Two other Cajon girls broke 22:00.
Team time is 100:37 for girls. (Cajon All-Time Best)
Team time is 82:18 for boys. (Cajon best since before
1990)

RESULTS ARE IN vs SUMMIT
Our day started with a moment of silence for Vicky Lemus.
We ran in her honor today, and boy did they run well.
Kenoni Sole and Miranda Corneliussen blazes thru the
new
Cajon course in the JV girls race. Sole came up victorious
out kicking Corneliussen and winning by 13 seconds in
course record fashion in 20:33. The two great freshman
outran the next runner by 2:30. Cajon filled the top seven
positions with good runs from many including Lee,
Hernandez, Dominioni, Sanner and Bush.
Boys JV placed six in the top six lead by Eric Severson in
17:53. James Stallworth, YES relation the John Stallworth
of Pittsburg Steeler fame, greatly improved over last
season wclocking in at 18:00. Howard, Diaz, Blom and
Delgado closed out the top six.
56 JV runners from Cajon finished the race. 29 boys and
27 girls.
The Varsity Girls race was won by Cajon as well. Marisela
Giles paced the field to take down Sole's course record set
earlier with her 20:10. Zayer of Summit ran very well
placing 2n in 20:27. She was followed closely by
Sundstrom and Warrick. Nately Bautista was a nice suprise
in 5th. Fraizer, running injured rounded out out top five
finishing 7th.
The Varsity Boys made a statement today placing all seven
runners under 17:56. Julio Ayala's hard work in practice
sure paid off with a course record run of 16:36, outpacing
a great run by Yovanny Ramirez, 16:43. Duenez broke 17:
00 as well. Rutledge and Vanderveer lived up to our
expectations and diminished any doubts about the shape
they are in. Both ran low 17's. McKenzie and Garza
finished off our sweep of an upstart Summit team.
At the end of the day, 4 girls under 21:00 with Fraizer
sure to bounce back very soon. We had 8 boys under 18:
00, 3 of them under 17:00 and our ninth runner went 18:
00 flat.
Awesome Job Team. (RESULTS BELOW) Scroll Further for

HOW TO KNOW IF YOU'RE CHILD IS A CROSS-COUNTRY
RUNNER:
People ask you, "They run three miles...at once?"
Dogs that chase them have to work hard to keep up.
You need a magnifying glass to see their name in the
paper.
All their socks are either stained or torn.
They can run farther in a week than their bus travels for
meets.
You tell your child to run to the store because it takes too
long to drive.
Your child can spit while running.
Your child asks to go to a golf course...to run.
They'd rather run to school than drive.
They use phrases like "10 mile" and "easy run" in the
same breath.
Their meals involve more than 3 servings.
They schedule their dates around meets.
You spend more on training clothes than school clothes.
Your Christmas list includes more than one pair of
running shoes.
You feel lost without a water bottle in your hand.
Your Fall Saturday mornings for the rest of your life are
ruined.
Your child gets happy when they see a hill coming.
Your child looks forward to running in the mountains
with bears.
Your child craves Veggies.
You can sharpen an axe blade on their calves.
They can maintain a 5:30 pace while throwing up.
They consider school a break between runs.
They own spandex in more than one color.
PRE, who died in 1975 is your child's hero. (Thanks Kam)
Your child's watch is more expensive than their car.
Your daughter's dress shoes have spikes... in the front.
They know as many names for pain as Eskimos know
words for snow.
They never look behind them.
They don't know what an off-season means.
Your child ran sub 5 on the PE mile.
They talk to their coach more than you.
They can say, "I love to run" in over 5 different languages.
