Coach's Corner

This is where you will find a weekly run down of how games went or practices went, sometimes even play by play, and the overall well being of the team. refer to the news section during the regular season to read on injury reports and other team news.

10-14
Todays game went great. Once again our defense was our corner stone. We made very few errors in the field and had a game of solid baserunning, with the exception of me when I tried to take home with no outs, oh well. The insurance run would have been nice but we didn't need it. James played fearlessly at third and tik cover behind him great on the tee kicks. Monica kicked her second double of the year, and I think this was one of richs better games. The first inning always proves to be a big one for us. Lets keep that up next week. Get an early lead so we can keep our heads on defense. Defense wins games. We have played seven games and are averaging just under 2.5 runs allowed per game, the average for the division is 5.4 some of the better divisions with teams that have played before are averaging 5.6 runs per game. We are definately in the elite.
Thanks to the following for getting me out of pitching jams today, Justin for making the backup tag at second to end the inning stranding two runners, Tick for backing me up on a chip shot off the tee that stranded one runner and ended the inning, and of course to jill, for tagging the final out to save the game, stranding two runners and ending the game.
See you all next week!
You all better be making plans to have the evening free so we can get together after the game!!!

9/3

week 2 ends with a 10 to 1 victory
Justin Urban Had a crazy game, 6 RKIs with a 3 run homer and I believe a double.
The game started off with a quick 4 runs that prove that the line up is working for the most part. Tick has been moved down a spot in the line up and Rob was moved up one. Andy Mayeshiba made the game, which won't happen often. When it does he will automaticly be put at the top of the order, mostly because he runs like a tsunami. Derek broke his 0for5 at the plate with a very patient at bat. He worked the count till he got a pitch he knew he could make contact with and keep in play. I would like to see more of that from him and would like to see him put the bawl on the first base side more behind the first baseman. Jill is kicking well however, she strained her leg after her second kick. I'm hoping the bye week gives her enough time to get healthy. I'm considering putting her 6th in the line up.

Adam Haupt did a decent job at third keeping the ball in front of him and making catches, however its possible he does not have the arm to make the necessary throws to first. I am likely going to move him to right field to take over ticks responsibility as back up man to first base, and put tick at third. Derek has been practicing that throw and knows its 35 strides to third and has been practicing by throwing a kickball the like distance into a small five gallon bucket mounted sideways on a tire swing.
The teams will be getting harder each week. The team that we are likely to have the most challenge with is the Phat kids on OCTOBER 14th. I will probably go to the game they play at 8 next week to see what they are all about. They play the ballistic bunters. It will be useful to find out where they tend to kick and how they tend to pitch. Their line up will be noted and action will be taken.
Great game this week team,
everyone has really suprised me with their enthusiasm and support.
Just a Reminder,
We are trying to get 20 to 40 people in the stands for the game after the bye week. Invite everyone you can, I would love to see yo momma there! so far I think we have a solid 8 just from me alone, so get on the horn. I want to win by intimidation.:)
See you next week and be sure to check out the news page for ticks game summary and interviews
8-27 The Coach Says

The first game went great. I could not have asked for anything more from our team, especially since this was our first real game. It was nice to have an easier team to compete against to break the rookies in for the feel of what its like to play on "game night" you know, fighting the nerves and all. Even veterans still get butterflies when they walk out onto the freshly cut grass under the glorious lights of a night game, Oh the magic of it all..... Oh sorry about that I was pretending I was a real athlete for a second, you must forgive me. Anyway....
Great defense. Everyone hustled and with the exception of aarons throw to first that went over robs head and was thrown after the runner was already safe,(a play that had no harm as derek had the backup and no one advanced..It was early in the game and aaron was dealing with the anxiety of playing his first game since coming up from the minors at trowbridge elementry, class of '87....) Wow that was a run on of something..
a couple harmless dropped balls and a little miscommunication between pither and 1st. All minor things that will work themselves out quickly. Rich santiago says there will be no more dropped balls by him for the rest of the season or he will drop and give me 20.

Offence....
All the girls ran their asses off. Thats all I ever wanted when I put this team together is for the girls to try their hardest, when they run to the bases to listen to the base coaches and run like their getting shot at. They did just that. Great fielding by our superstar sub Wendy at second base. All of our girls are kicking over .300 with the exception of Tong, and she had a bad back this week. (no excuses next week:) .
As for the guys at the plate, good things...
only Rich, and John are under .600, They are the two of our 3 big legs so its give or take. They will pop out a lot but they will also score a lot of runs, and RKI s are nothing to complain about. If they could drive the ball at waist height into the outfield that would be great but Ill ask for things one at a time.
Next week at 7 we play the pyts and I look forward to seeing Adam at third. He is a complete newbie on the field and no one has seen him in action since at least '89. He is a competitor and is the lost decendant of kickball legend pegleg pete who won the Golden Treasure Chest At the first ever Kickball finals in 1491 by kicking 73 home runs in one game with his unstoppable mohagany peg leg... Needless to say they were all out of the park homeruns cause he couldn't run so fast... Whatever. if Adam has a pinch of genes passed on from him, then opposing teams best not kick down the third base line.. He may have inherited the signiture throw of pegleg pete who would cock his arm back to the side in a unique manner and some how fire the ball off his hook.
Well Until next week. Enjoy the play by play summary By tick and See you at the next game. Sept. 2nd at 7 pm.

Dan

Some things to work on for next week.....
stop smoking so you guys can breath.

Concentrate on squaring up your body before fielding ground balls.

Staying focused when fielding a ground ball so you dont bobble it. PPP Pick up the ball, Plant your feet, Put the ball at the appropriate base.
Its important that we all stay healthy cause we only have 11 people on our team and the minimum amt of girls.

too bad theres no way to coach good looks
