***2003 PEPSI HOCKEY TOURNAMENT MARCH 28TH - 30TH SQUIRT A DIVISION CHAMPIONS - MCYH MIGHTY EAGLES!!***
That's right!!! Our Mighty Eagles were able to repeat as Squirt A Champions at the 2003 Pepsi Tournament in Buffalo!! Way to go Eagles! Twice in one year, this was truly "Against All Odds"!
Game Summary:
We started the tournament with a 5:00pm game @ Leisure Rinks against the Depew Saints #2. Our Eagles were dominant throughout, holding the Saints to just 8 shots on goal compared with 32 shots on goal for your Mighty Eagles! The offense in this game was very well balanced, with 6 different players scoring goals (Austin, Cory, Nick, Matt, Chris (2)and Albino). Assists went to Andy, Austin, Albino, Brian and Matt. The final score was 7 - 0 and Johnny recorded another shut out.
Our 2nd game was Saturday @ 2;45pm against a very tough Perinton Bruins team. The had met them at two previous tournaments and our head-tohead record was 1 win and 1 loss each. Our Eagles were able to get on the board early and stay there, during a very physical game. We were ahead 4 - 0 halfway through the 3rd when the Bruins scored. Our Eagles pulled it together and didn't allow another goal, pulling out a 4 - 1 win!! Shots on goal in this game were pretty even with 14 for the Eagles and 12 for Perinton. Goals were scored by Cory (2) and Andy (2) with assists going to Nick (2), Austin and Matt. Our defense had an awesome game!! Another great game for Johnny, allowing only one goal!
Our 3rd game was on Sunday morning against another Depew Saints team. Again our Eagles were in "total domination mode"!! We were able to get out on top early and never looked back, cruising to a 5 - 0 win. Another shut out for Johnny (this is getting old hat!!) and a great overall team performance, including a fantastic job by our "D". Goals were scored by Austin, Chris, Albino, Andy and Cory, with assists going to Cory (2), Chris, Austin and Matt! Shots on goal favored our Eagles by a 3 to 1 margin, 26 to 7! We were now in the championship game @ 2;15pm, having collected 14 out of a possible 15 points!!!!
In the championship game we played an extremely tough Perinton Coyotes team. Both of us had gone undefeated during the regular tournament divisional games, earning our way into the final.
A very closely matched game was about to begin. We traded the first 2 goals and were tied 1 - 1. In the second period our Eagles scored to make it 2 - 1 going into the 3rd. The 3rd period was a thriller with Perinton tying the score with only a few minutes to go in the period, sending it into overtime. An 8 minute overtime began and our Eagles had the first few opportunities but were unable to capitalize on them. Perinton came down the ice next and Johnny made an awesome save. Our Eagles were able to break out of their zone on a 3 on 2 and with some great passing by Nick and Chris, Andy was able to rifle a shot where "MaMa Hides the Cookies" for the win!! 3 - 2 in OT was the final score and our Mighty Eagles were the champions of Pepsi Squirt A once more!! Johnny had an awesome tournament, bringing his Pepsi Tournament GAA to a mere 0.78!!! Less than 1 goal allowed per game!!! Way to go Johnny! We may have only had 10 skaters and a goalie, however our Eagles played like they were 100 men strong, never giving up on a puck and playing fantastic "D"!! We are all extremely proud of your efforts. The odds of winning Pepsi are stacked up against you, so to win it twice in one season is an unbelievable feat!!!
**After winning the Championship in the 2003 Pepsi Hockey Tournament last weekend, our team was excited but also a tad bit tired. The Scottsville Tournament would test us up mostly against teams from MCYH's different rinks with teams from Canandaigua and Webster mixed in.
We played our first game Thurs. March 20th against a tough Perinton team we had beat the previous weekend for our only win in the Boulter Tournament. We almost played spoiler for them, missing keeping them out of the Boulter Tourney final by 1 point, and they were out for revenge! This game was neck and neck throughout, and a defensive struggle with both teams blocking shots and not letting anything get to their goaltenders. Perinton was able to score one more than we did however and won the game 2 - 1. Shots on goal were 11 - 9 in favor of our Eagles and Johnny made some great saves. Our lone goal was scored by Andy with the assist to Austin.
On Friday night we would play an MCYH Anniversary Game inviting our friends from Tri-County to play us. They had hosted us a couple of times this year so we felt abliged to return the favor. This was a fun game for our Eagles as Coach Dave let them play a variety of different positions which they all seemed to enjoy. The Tri-County goalie definitely kept them in the game throughout making save after save. Our Eagles outshot them 24 - 10, but were only able to sneak one past their goalie for a 1 - 0 win! Johnny was stellar again turning away all of the shots he faced. Our lone goal was scored by Austin, unassisted on a breakaway.
Next up was the 2nd game of the Scottsville Tourney at 7:00am Saturday morning (AUGHHHHHH!) We would face a tough Scottsville Vipers team that was out to show us they had come to play. Our Eagles had shot after shot on their goaltender but just couldn't get one past him. Scottsville was able to score late in the 2nd period and that was all they needed to secure the win. We outshot them 17 - 7! Only one got by Johnny as he extended his GAA to a mere 1.17 in his last 7 games!
The Saturday Matinee game would have us facing our nemisis, Webster. This team always plays us extremely hard and this game would be no different. A very even game throughout and very physical, it would be close until the final period when Webster was able to hold on for a 3 - 1 win. Again, Austin came up with our only goal of the game, extending his point streak to 5 games, and Andy had the assist. Johnny was strong in net again, but we could not support him with goal scoring. Shots on goal favored Webster, 15 - 12.
Our Eagles were tired of losing and came to play in the consolation game for their division. They would meet a Scottsville Starz team with a one-two all girl scoring punch in Amanda and Ashley. Containment of Ashley was the key to our success, holding her to only 3 goals. Our "D" came up big, with the help of some great back checking on a couple of breakways to hold Scottsville back and give themselves a chance for the win. Our Eagles came out shooting, leading that category during the game by 23 - 12. We finally lit up the goal light as well scoring 5 goals, back to normal going into our second Pepsi weekend. Goals were scored by Andy, Austin, Cory (2) and Nick with assists going to Austin, Chris and Albino. Cory, Nick and Austins goals were all awesome unassisted shots as they worked hard to steal the puck at center ice and go in for the score. After all was said and done, the score was 5 - 4 in favor of our Eagles! Out on a winning note, we cruise into this weekend's Pepsi Tournament riding a goalie with an awesome save percentage and an offense that can "Lite It Up" when called upon to produce. Good luck Eagles and have a blast!
***We went into the Pepsi Tournament with high hopes having already beaten 2 of the teams in our draw during the regular season. The only team we were unfamiliar with were the Syracuse Thrashers and they were the first up for us on Friday evening.
The game against the Thrashers was an extremely close contest. All the way through it was a defensive battle for control of the puck. Shots on goal were few and far between and the only goal was scored by Austin with an assist from Andy in the first period. That was all our Eagles needed however and were able to come away with a tie, 1 - 1, and split the 5 points in half with the Thrashers.
Our next game up was on Saturday against a scrappy RYH Dragon Slayers team. We had played this team 3 times previously winning 2 of the 3 meetings. We last saw them in our divisional playoffs and lost to them in a shootout after skating to a 1 - 1 tie in regulation. Our Eagles would have none of that today and jumped in front of the Slayers and never once looked back! The final score was 5 - 0, leaving our Eagles in a pirme position to make it to the finals with 7 1/2 points in 2 games.
Sunday morning was an early one at 7:30am and our Eagles were not completely awake yet, even so they played a Webster team that was short a couple of players but fought the good fight throughout the game. We got on the scoreboard first with a sweet goal by Albino and then Nick followed up with a couple of goals to put us ahead and the game away as we won 3 - 0. We ended up taking 4 points in this game and won our division with 11 1/2 points. Going into the final, Johnny had only given up 1 goal! He was a wall in front of the net for us!
We already knew who we would be facing, but knew we had a great chance to capture the crown as the SIR team had struggled to win their games and had squeaked through with a couple of 1 goal wins. As usual SIR was into giving us a run for our money and making it a game we would have to EARN a win in. Our Eagles did not disappoint, constantly crashing the net and playing shot for shot, hard fought hockey. The first few goals scored went back and forth with the game tied 1 - 1 going into the second period when our Eagles lit the goal light three times and went into the third up 4 - 2. We all knew that the SIR team (the best team in our division during the regular season) was not going to rollover and let us walk away with the victory, we would have to claw our way onto the top of the podium and play a strong defensive period. Our Eagles did just that and Johnny contributed some fantastic saves to secure the win for us by a score of 5 - 2. SIR played a great game and should be proud of their efforts! FANTASTIC JOB EAGLES!! WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU!
****We participated in the 3rd Annual Boulter Hockey Classic at the Webster Ice Arena on March 7th - 9th. Our first game was against a Webster Squirt Team we had played earlier in the year in a non-league game. The Webster team came out cruisin and were all over our Mighty Eagles quickly. Before we could blink an eye we were down by 4 goals. Our Eagles scored next on a nice feed from Amanda to Albino. Unfortunately that was all she wrote for our Eagles in this game and Webster scored two more unanswered goals for a 6 - 1 win. Our Eagles were outshot in this game 15 - 11. Our next game was a much better showing, even though we came out on the short end of the stick again, our Eagles fought a hard battle and looked much more like the Eagles who we all have come to know and love. We were matched against a very tough SIR Storm team who were the winners of our regular season division. SIR was coming off an upset lose in the playdowns and were out to prove they were the team to beat! SIR came out striking and were ahead of us 3 - 0 before we knew it. We were able to score one late in the second, on a great goal by Albino off an awesome set up by Brian and Cory. SIR struck next and that was the last of the scoring for a final of 4 - 1. Johnny kept us in the hunt for much of the game making some great saves. We outshot SIR by 22 - 13! The SIR goalie made some wonderful saves as well to ice their victory. Last but certainly not least was our Sunday game against Perinton. Our Eagles had the chance to play the spoiler in this game as Perinton was undefeated and looking for an easy ride to the Tournament finals. We came out smokin and played Perinton extremely tight during the first period to end it at 0 - 0. Our spark ignited in the second and we came alive with 3 unanswered goals, stunning Perinton. We were not done yet however and scored another 2 unanswered goals to blank Perinton by a score of 5 - 0!! Goals were scored by Andy, Cory (2), Nick and Austin, three of which were unassisted! Our defense, along with some good backchecking by our forwards, held Perinton to only 8 shots on goal to our 20!! It was a great effort by all, especially Johnny who made some spectacular saves on all of the shots Perinton threw his way. This definitely was the Eagles team who won the Auburn Tournament! We missed being total spoilers by a 1/2 point and Perinton made it to the finals against SIR.
Our Eagles have a lot to be proud of for playing as well as the did on Sunday with nothing on the line but pride! Soar high into the Pepsi Tournament Eagles!!
*****Saturday March 1st we hosted a non-league game against a tough Webster Cyclones Team. We had played them the previous weekend to a 2 - 2 tie and were ready to win! The Cyclones were not going to make it easy for us however, and they came out firing getting on the board first early in the 1st period. Webster scored again before the end of the 1st to make it 2 - 0 going into the 2nd period. Our Eagles came to play in the 2nd scoring the only two goals of the period, 1 by Katie Corbett on a great shot between the five-hole and a nice bang-in on a rebound in front of the Webster net by Chris Longwell. With the scored tied 2 - 2 going into the 3rd period, things were looking mighty familiar to last weeks game. Our Eagles were not through yet though and came away with 5 goals in the 3rd period. Katie had another sweet goal, Mike Briganti had a great breakaway goal he lofted "where mama hides the cookies," Austin had a nice goal and Andy had 2 more before the period came to a close. The final score was 7 - 2. Johnny also had an awesome game between the pipes stoping everything that was thrown at him from 7:51 of the first period till the closing buzzer. Assists also went to Andy (2), Albino (1), Nick, Mike B. (2), Cory (3), Katie, and Austin.
Great game Eagles! On to the Webster Tourney!
******We ventured out to Webster on Saturday, February 22nd to play a non-league game against the Cyclones. Both teams came out strong defensively, with only a few shots being allowed on both Johnny and the Webster goalie. Pucks were being blocked, deflected and redirected all game long. Webster got on the board first with a nice shot high in the net. Cory Gurski came flying back at them to tie it up for our Eagles with a nice shot after pushing his way through two Webster defensemen. Webster had an answer for us though and scored next, moving them back into the lead. Our Eagles fought hard and with under a minute to go in the third period Coach Dave pulled Johnny and sent a sixth forward out to try to tie it up. We kept control of the puck in the Webster zone and got the puck behind the net where Chris made a nice wrap around attempt that skirted out in front of the goal and Cory was able to loft the puck into the net for the tying goal with less than 20 seconds left on the clock! At the final buzzer the score was 2 - 2 and shots on goal were 9 - 7 in favor of the Eagles. Thank you Webster for your hospitality in inviting us out to play!
*******Going into this weekend's playdowns, we had a chance to play at the Blue Cross Arena against the Brockport Team who would be our first playoff opponent. This would turn out to be a wide open, high scoring showdown. There were plenty of goals scored by both teams with the Mighty Eagles having the opportunity to play a variety of different positions during the game. Our forwards played "D," our Defensemen and woman played forward and all had a fun time. With the final score of 10 - 8, and shots on goal 24 (Johnny's new season high in shots faced) for Brockport to 21 for our Eagles, there was sure plenty of action! Goals were scored by Andy, Albino(2), Austin (3), Bobby, Chris, Cory, and Nick. We were a scoring machine and on a roll going into the playoffs the next day.
On Saturday our first game was against the Brockport Team we had defeated the afternoon before. Brockport got out to a fast start and were ahead 2 - 0 going into the third period. After the first two goals, Johnny held Brockport scoreless and the offense took over. Our Eagles came to life in the third and began a 5 goal tirade that left Brockport stunned and eliminated from the playoffs by a score of 5 - 2. Goals were scored by Albino (2), Cory (2) and Nick, with assists going to Andy and Chris. Shots on goal were 12 - 7 in favor of our Eagles.
Our second opponent was a scrappy Rochester Youth Hockey team that had just come off of a HUGE upset of the #1 ranked, undefeated SIR team. Needless to say they were skating with a huge amount of confidence. This was an extremely defensive game with each team allowing only a handful of shots on goal during the entire 3 periods. Both Johnny and the RYH goalie played phenomenal games and by the end of regulation the score was tied, 1 - 1. Our regulation goal was scored by Andy with an assist going to Austin. With the score tied we went to the "Shoot Out" tie breaker format pitting 5 shooters from each team head to head with the opposing team''s goalie. Cory struck first scoring on the first attempt. Unfortunately our next 4 shooters were unable to capitalize on their shots. Not to fret...Johnny kept us in the game by stopping all but one shot and we ended up tied again!! Next came the nerve wracking "Sudden Death Shootout" where the first team to score wins the game. Fate was not on our side however as we missed on our first attempt and RYH capitalized on the opportunity, sneaking one past Johnny. All in all this was a fantastic game for all of our players, especially the showing Johnny had in net. Our guys and gals were disappointed in the defeat, but should look back on the season as the true Champions that we know they are! We should all be extremely proud of the team and their efforts throughout the season. Our coaching staff has been second to none and we appreciate your time and efforts in helping our Eagle be the best that they can be! Onward and upward its tournament time Eagles!
********We finished our season with a 8 - 7 - 2 record in 2003 and are poised to meet Brockport in the playoffs on Saturday, February 15th in Canandaigua. We will have a chance to hone our skills against this same Brockport team this Friday as we have been invited to play against them at the Blue Cross Arena @ 4:30pm. We will attend the Amerks game immediately following our game.
On Friday, February 7th some of our team members attended the Amerks - Hershey Bears game and served as "Frisbee Sellers" for charity. They also did a fantastic job collecting the Frisbees off the ice after they were tossed at the end of the second period. The game was enjoyable as well but unfortunately the Amerks lost in the last few minutes of the game.
Our last game of the season, on Saturday, February 8th, was against a very strong Perinton Canadiens team. We had home ice and took advantage early with a goal by Chris Longwell off an Albino D'Angelo shot that rebounded in front of the net. Perinton scored the next goal on a hard shot to the top of the net. We held our own however, holding Perinton to one goals over the first two periods. Unfortunately, we couldn't hold them for long and they scored two unanswered goals in the third period to make the final score 3 - 1 in their favor. Johnny had an absolutely awesome night in net facing 21 shots on goal (the most he has faced all year), turning away 18. Final shots on goal were 21 - 9 in favor of Perinton. Perinton should be fore warned...if we happen to meet them in the playoffs, we will not go down without a fight!
*********We played one of our most entertaining games of the year last Saturday against a Webster Cyclones Team. We were victorious when we played them at the Blue Cross Arena earlier in the season, winning by a score of 8 - 2. The outcome of this game was going to be much different. Both teams played 3 solid periods of hockey holding each other to just 23 shots on goal combined. Johnny did a great job in net for us stopping all 8 shots he faced. The Webster Goalie was just as perfect stopping all 15 shots we threw his way! Our Eagles kept coming and coming at Webster but couldn't put one past them. The final score of the game was a 0 - 0 tie! It was an exciting game for all fans both Webster's and the Eagles. Both teams played an awesome game and should be proud of their efforts. Our next game is home against Perinton and the Eagles will be ready to soar!
**********Ok...coming off such a fantastic tournament we all may have anticipated a little bit of a let down going into a 2 game weekend. During our first game our Eagles had a little bit of one, playing Webster at home on Friday, January 24th. The Webster team came out smokin with 4 unanswered goals (all by one player!) in the first two periods. The Mighty Eagles did not give up however and scored 2 goals late in the second period to make a game out of it! Unfortunately, when you meet a one player scoring machine like we did, you are bound to be in for a ruff night. Webster scored the next two goals in the second period (yes, again all by the same player!) and went ahead of our Eagles by a score of 6 - 2. Again, the determined bunch that our players are did not give up! Our guys came back, scoring 3 unanswered goals through the third period to make it 6 - 5. With the Webster team still leading late in the third, the clock was against us and we ended up losing the game by that 6 - 5 score. On a positive note, we outshot them by 18 - 12! Chris Longwell came up with 2 goals and Andy, Cory and Albino each added a goal for our Eagles. Cory and Albino also repeated with an assist each and Austin and Katie added one assist each as well.
The second game was against the same Webster team we had lost to the night before and our Eagles were out to avenge that loss! With Coach Dave sick, the team wanted badly to come out with a win for him. Containment of #12 on the Webster team, the producer of all 6 goals the night before, was the key to a win and our team took that to the bank! What a game this would turn out to be! We came out strong from the get go and were on the board first with a great goal by Cory Gurski. We scored another 2 goals for a 3 - 0 lead, but Webster was not going to give up and scored a goal to make it 3 - 1. Cory was HOT...HOT...HOT... though scoring 5 goals on the night! Do I hear HAT TRICK and then some!! Austin added 2 goals and Matt had 1 to cap off the scoring. Amanda, Katie and Chris each assisted on 1 goal each. We played an extremely tight defensive game and held Webster to just 8 shots on goal. Our forwards did an awesome job back checking to complete the containment of #12. Johnny came up with some big saves to keep us in the lead and secure a win by the final score of 8 - 3! The shots on goal tally was 18 - 8, in favor of our Eagles. If we meet this team in the playoffs we have the strategy down pat!!
****AUBURN MARTIN LUTHER KING TOURNAMENT 2003 SQUIRT DIVISION CHAMPIONS****
The weekend of January 17th - 20th our Mighty Eagles participated in the Auburn Ice hawks Martin Luther King Day Hockey Tournament. The players had a great weekend spending time with each other, swimming and playing "Knee Hockey" at the Days Inn and Holiday Inn in Auburn. We played three games against some great competition, and made it to the 4th game, the final on Monday.
Our first game on at 7:30am Saturday morning was against a Squirt team from Saratoga, NY. Our Eagles came out flying and were ahead by a score of 5 - 0 before we could blink an eye! The Saratoga team scored next on a nice shot from their winger. The Eagles were not done yet however and rang up another 6 goals before the game was over, winning by a score of 11 - 1! Goal production in this game was spread out across the team with 5 different players scoring goals and Johnny did a great job between the pipes, allowing only 1 goal. We also outshot this team by a 3 to 1 margin. Our second game came against a much improved Rochester Youth Hockey Canucks team. A team we had beaten twice before, they were able to keep right up with us in this game. They went ahead with a score of 2 - 0 but our Eagles came soaring back with 2 goals. We went back and forth with the next two goals, us scoring one and RYH scoring one. In the third period our Eagles went into overdrive, scoring the next three goals for a final score of 6 - 3. In both the second and third games Nick and Cory were on fire scoring 10 goals among them! Our third game was against an extremely tough Auburn Ice Hawks team. Yes, it was the Hawks against the Eagles and these two teams were VERY closely matched in terms of skill level. The Auburn team had not lost a game all year so they played with a great deal of confidence. It was a seesaw back and forth kind of game with Auburn leading 3 - 2 going well into the third period. Our Eagles scored last however to tie up the game and held them to a final score of 3 - 3. All we can say in this game is Katie...Katie...Katie as she was in on every point scoring 1 goal and adding 2 assist! The shots on goal in this game were 18 - 17, in favor of our Eagles. Johnny did another bang up job between the pipes, keeping the game! within reach. We went undefeated all weekend (2 - 0 - 1) earning 12 points and tying the Auburn team for first place. You guessed it...we played Auburn in the finals. Auburn came out of the gates very hot, scoring the first goal within 8 seconds of the first period! Our players settled in however and we started another back and forth, evenly matched, extremely competitive game against the Hawks. The score was even at 2 each for much of the second period when our Eagles went ahead by 3 - 2. Our players were not going to take anything less than FIRST PLACE and scored an insurance goal in the third period for a final win of 4 - 2. Johnny made some huge saves in the game to insure an Eagles Victory!! All 4 of the games we played were total team efforts and our Eagles should be very proud of their results. What an awesome finish to a fantastic weekend! Great Job Eagles!
*********What a busy weekend! On Saturday, we played the Rochester Youth Canucks and did very well, winning with a score of 5-0. Nick Papas scored the first goal and had an assist as well. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Goals were also scored by Andy Sherry (2), Austin Hintz and Matt Sturnick. Our defense was awesome, our forwards were really flying and Johnny recorded his fourth shutout of the season. A great team effort all the way around. Way to go Eagles! On Sunday we played the first place Perinton Canadiens and unfortunately were not as successful. Although the very aggressive Perinton team outscored us (4-2), out shot us and out sized us our great guys and gals gave them a run for their money. Perinton scored early in the first period but a sweet goal by Cory Gurski tied the score. In the second period the Canadiens went ahead by one. In the third period Katie tied it up again. Then in the third period Perinton scored 2 more goals to take the win. It was a hard fought, close game all the way. On a lighter side, the team enjoyed an impromptu birthday party for Nicky (now #10 is really 10) as we watched the Pittsburg/Titans football game (Sorry Shane). After the Sunday game we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at the Parkside Diner (thank you Jim and Diane). Next week, on to Auburn for our second big tournament. Good luck Eagles!!!
**********January 4th we played a home game against the Brockport Tri-County Team we previously beat twice (8 - 4 & 4 - 1). Thanks to John Eadie's big save on a questionable penalty shot, he was able to keep our Mighty Eagles in the game. The Tri-County team was the first to score on a quick shot from the point. Our Eagles scored next on a nice rebound that Andy Sherry roofed into the net above the goalie. The game was very tight from then on with Tri-County taking control of the game through the second period, but Goalie John's numerous saves kept the game within reach. Our Eagles fought a tough battle but came up short in the end with the curfew clock getting the best of us. Tri-County scored a goal late in the third period and won the game 2 - 1. We were outshot in the game 11 - 9.
**********The Mighty Eagles had some fun this week with their Holiday celebration taking place on Friday, December 27th. We took part in an open skate for team members and their families and had a blast! After our open skate we played a non-league game against the MCYH Vipers of Scottsville. Scottsville didn't take long getting on the board first with two quick goals. Our Mighty Eagles worked hard to tie the score at 2, however the Vipers scored next and then it was back and forth with goals until a final score of 4 - 4 was reached. The Vipers had a great showing by their keeper Andrew Stedge who made 12 saves on 16 shots! Final shot totals were 16 - 9 in favor of our Eagles.
On Saturday, December 28th, we were the visitors for a game in Brockport playing a Tri-County team we had an 8 - 4 victory against in the Thanksgiving Tournament. Our Mighty Eagles dominated the game from the first drop of the puck, out shooting the Tri-County team by a two to one margin in the first two periods. The Mighty Eagles got on the scoreboard first with a fantastic shot by Matt Sturnick off of a superb set up by Chris Longwell and Bobby Marshall! Bobby also scored a goal, by banging away at a loose puck in front of the Tri-County keeper, for 2 points on the day. Austin Hintz also had a goal and an assist for the Eagles. The Tri-County players didn't stop fighting and scored a goal late in the third period with the Eagles ahead 3 - 0. Our Eagles came right back, scoring an insurance goal to make the final score 4 - 1. Cory Gurski also recorded his third goal in the past two games and Nick Papas had an assist. The final shots! on goal were 12 - 10 in favor of our Eagles. Keep up the good work Eagles!
***********We played two games last weekend, both on December 17th, and came away with a 1-1 record. The first game was a scrimmage against a MCYH Squirt B team. The Squirt B's kept up with our A's for much of the first period, with their goalie doing a fantastic job, and it remained scoreless going into the second. Our Mighty Eagles struck first in the 2nd period with Andy Sherry scoring on a great feed from Austin Hintz. Our Eagles scored another 3 unanswered goals and came away with a 4 - 0 win, giving John Eadie a shut out. The Mighty Eagles outshot the B's by 17 shots to 3.
Our second game was away, and we were looking to avenge our previous weekend's lose to a very good Canandaigua team. A hard fought battle began, with our Eagles striking first on a great goal by Cory Gurski. Our team led 2 - 1 going into the third when Canandaigua scored 3 unanswered goals for a 4 - 2 victory. Our Eagles played an awesome game and should be extremely proud of their efforts against a tough opponent. Shots on goal were 10 - 8 in favor of Canandaigua.
************We finished the weekend of December 14th and 15th with 1 win and 1 loss. Our first game was at home against Canandaigua and the Canandaigua team came out shooting! They scored the first 5 goals of the game and our Mighty Eagles tried diligently to catch up. They were not able to make up ground on the initial deficit and we ended up coming out on the short end of the stick by a score of 6 - 1. Our lone goal was score by Andy Sherry with an assist to Austin Hintz. Shots-on-goal in the game were even at 9 a piece.
The second game on Sunday had a much better outcome! Our Mighty Eagles came to skate, keeping pace early with a tough Webster Cyclones team. The game was extremely tight through the first period with Webster scoring the first goal. With the score 1 - 0, in Webster's favor, the Webster goalie came out of the crease to make a play on the puck and Christopher Longwell was in the right place at the right time. He played the puck, took a shot at the open net and tied the score at 1 - 1. It was all Eagles from there with a great goal scored by Nick Papas and another scored by Andy Sherry (with an assist to Nick).
