History

East Leeds Comets were formed on the 2nd May 1986 by Pat and Terry Ellis. This was the year of 'Hayley's Comet' hence the troupe name. We joined the Yorkshire Carnival Association and entered the 1986 Universal Championships at the Spa, Bridlington winning 3rd place junior mascot,... well done Becky!!

In 1987 at the Universal Championships we achieved 'Most Improved Troupe' going on to win both the Junior and Senior show sections in 1988. The troupe grew in size and success and by the early 90's consisted of around 50 members and sections ranging from Tinies up to Seniors.

Sadly on 4th May 1991 Pat Ellis passed away which had a huge impact on all members and committee. Despite this and due to alot of hard work and commitment from Terry and all the girls, the troupe continued to win numerous titles throughout the years. Terry took the decision to leave the troupe in 1995 and join the Y.C.A as an adjudicator. At this point his daughter Tericia together with the rest of the committee took over the running of the troupe.

Throughout the following years we danced in a number of associations including L.C.A, P.D.A, and M.A.N.E.C.C.O all of which we achieved excellent results.

By the turn of the 'Millenium' our Senior members were taking time out to either attend University, get married, have families or just to concentrate on their careers.
Between the years of 2003-2005 we took the decision not to enter as many competitions and by this time we only had a Senior team. In late 2005 we decided to re-join the Y.C.A and compete in the 2006 season.

We had a very successful Universal Championships in November 2006, winning both Senior Dance Twirl and Senior Themed sections! We triumphed again at the 2007 Universal's with a hat trick winning the Senior sections of Dance Twirl, Themed and Pom.

We would like to take this opportunity to THANK all past and present dancers, committee and everyone else who has played a part in the running of the troupe throughout the last 22 years!
