Rules

Here are some of the basic rules to which our members have to conform in order to participate in our sport. Each athlete is given a "Code-Of-Conduct" which is more detailed for their team and may vary from the basic one shown below.

General Information:

Cheerleading is a team sport. No one person is the “star”. Every person on the team is needed for a stunt to be successful, a cheer to sound great and routine to look amazing. It is a physically demanding sport that requires dedication and hard work. We have gained the respect as a first class organization. We have rules to provide structure and boundaries towards squad member behavior. All members are expected to follow these rules at all times. Infractions could bring about a penalty including immediate dismissal from the squad.

1. Coaches, managers and all squad members must be treated with dignity and respect.
2. I must not risk tarnishing our communities respect of the Meadow Ridge Knights Cheerleading and Football Association by displaying inappropriate behavior (swearing, smoking, etc) at any time while wearing team uniforms/clothing or while in attendance at any team practice, game or event.
3. Squad members have set obligations towards their team. The use of illegal drugs, alcohol or other substances that alter ones judgement is dangerous and will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal from the team.
4. I must arrive on time for practice and games, fully prepared mentally and physically. (Hair tied back, proper shoes, team clothing or suitable shorts and T-shirt.)
5. All body jewelry must be removed and/or taped before practices/games start.
6. I must keep my nails trimmed short. This is a safety concern for all involved in a stunt.
7. I must take part in team conditioning during practice.
8. I must attend all practices/games unless there is a valid excuse.
9. I must contact one of my coaches as early as possible if I am not able to attend a practice/game, will be late or will need to leave early. This is extremely important as the coach plans routines based on a full squad in attendance. Additional time and planning will be needed for the coach to make adjustments to a routine when there are absent members.
10. I must attend practice whenever possible, even if feeling under the weather or injured as it is best to be present to observe and learn. The team can only make progression with 100% consistent team involvement.
11. No chewing gum or horseplay during practices/games.
12. If a camp or special team function is called it is important to attend with my squad.
13. If I become injured I’ll seek the best, immediate medical attention and inform my coach. (Do not attempt stunts when an injury will hamper the stunts safety.)
14. There is to be no direct contact/comments unrelated to the game with the players or spectators while on the field in uniform.
15. I understand at half time or when not cheering, cheerleaders are not to “Wander Off” from the rest of the team (excluding bathroom breaks). The team looks disorganized when they can be found all over the field, in the stands and at the concession during the game. Concession visits can be made before and after games.
16. I must take excellent care of my uniform and return it when asked to do so or at the end of the season.
